Skiing trips with my dad are among my fondest memories. The lessons he taught me during these off weekends are my most prized possessions. The mantra that always stays with me is to stop and take in your surroundings. Even writing this now I am seeing the majestic Teton mountains blanketed in snow under crystal blue skies, breathing in the crisp mountain air. For me life is about enjoying the environment I’m in, meeting friendly strangers on the chairlift, and falling hard but getting up each time no matter how hard it may be to get the ski back on.
Hanna Skinner '20 | Start Up
Major | Political Science and Economics
My passion for start-up culture began when I first started working at the
entrepreneurship hub 1871, located in downtown Chicago. While I was there, I worked as a membership intern, and although I had limited business experience prior, I was quickly immersed into startup culture- and I was fascinated by it. After spending time with entrepreneurs, I saw firsthand how much determination, hard work, and perseverance goes in to running a start up. That environment inspired me to support emerging businesses and study market trends more generally.
Andy Weng '19 | Software Engineering
Major | Computer Science and Business
Minor | Entrepreneurship
I immigrated to America when I was five. My parents, a radiologist and a pharmacist in China, gave up their comfortable lives to give me the opportunity to have a top-tier education. Since childhood, I was pushed in mathematics by my numbers-obsessed dad, both in study and the games we played, so it's no surprise that I have a passion for anything involving strategy or statistics. Whether it's chess, poker, video games, or more, I strive to do everything at a high level. This has shaped me into a strong analytical thinker, serving me well in my CS major.
